Re: Stockholm (Weekly Terror Attack Thread)
What has actually changed over the past 50 years is the ability to "influence at a distance", brought about, first of all by the ability to travel with one's beliefs, and more recently by the ability to send those beliefs around the world to anyone who wishes/happens to see/hear them.

Plus the technology to act at a distance (I certainly don't recall mobile phones being offered with terrorist abilities when they first appeared - somebody had to think that one up).

Physical borders have now lost their historic meanings as where in the past, influences were gradual (something like regional accents), now they are brutal, and diametrical opposites can now co-exist and change within hours, with all the tensions that implies.

So totally unlike the IRA and ETA then. Which was what you said, which was what I disagreed with.

What you did there is what people do when they don't have a proper argument. You say one thing, that is shown to be false, so you pretend you said something different. In this case you start of with a erroneous comparison with IRA and ETA, that's shown to be idiotic, so you switch to an equally erroneous comparison with WWII. The trouble is, you're probably used to doing it verbally when you can lie your way out of it and pretend that's not what you said. On here though it is still down there a few posts ago.

There's a bueatiful, historic building in West Ham Lane called West Ham church. It's dates back one thousand years. Just around the corner from it is a memorial to the fates of English merchant sailors captured by Barbary pirates hundreds of years ago. They were offered a choice on capture, convert to Islam or face castration or death.

They are not Jonny-come-latelies.

Re: Stockholm (Weekly Terror Attack Thread)
Lot of people in Europe turned away from faith after WWI & WWII atrocities and it has really gone downhill considering the population growth since those wars, hopefully it will have the same result for the current aggressive push to be the dominant religion. In the end they have to wake up to the fact of what being faithful to a religion can turn you into and be used for and say would any god/prophet actually create this kind of religious evolution? It will take time and intellect or even media to show this is not right because if they are not killing the evil Westerners they are killing eachother.

Pee Wee I said the same thing last night, no disrespect to the victims in both London and Sweden but the carnage count is very low I put this down to three reasons 1.Luck and lots of it. 2. Maybe as the Bard said we DO have God on our side or 3. Having visited many raghead countries like Somalia, Libya, Oman Dubai and France, they cannot drive for shit. But sympathies to all the victims and their families and those of that Romanian woman and her friends and family who suffered for two weeks

The Holocaust was committed in the name of Christianity? And it was Christianity that caused WW1 &2?

Who knew? I mean who fucking knew?

And, as regarding the rest of your pile of utter gash - newsflash, it's 2017.

What a cunt.

They have come from nowhere in the last 20 years as regards violence towards Westerners.
To be honest most people got by day to day not really bothering about them beavering away in their 13th century world
They are basically the Chelsea of Terrorism

Re: Stockholm (Weekly Terror Attack Thread)
That's pretty silly, Hermit. Muslims have been no more violent than anyone else over the past few centuries. Christians colonised the world, killing countless native people, often in cold blood. Muslims didn't exterminate six million Jews, gypsies, etc. They didn't start two world wars that killed millions of people, many of them innocent.

As the saying goes, why behold the mote in your brother's eye when you have a beam in your own?

Re: Stockholm (Weekly Terror Attack Thread)
"Nah. Same thing as Irish Republican or Basque terrorism. It'll run out of steam eventually."

If there was a timeline for terror, the two above would be blips, with the one in the OP lasting well over a millennium. Even if you stretched it from Wolf Tone to Gerry Adams you'd have a fraction of the one that will supposedly, magically run out of steam soon.

Re: Stockholm (Weekly Terror Attack Thread)
Is it me or are terrorists pretty rubbish?

I mean, there are people killed by cars every week, a few more being run down isn't really going to make a difference. I mean of course, those personally affected it's terrible, but people are still walking over Westminster bridge not giving last weeks events a second thought. It hasn't affected anyone in the grand scheme of things.

Now a simultaneous attack on the Dartford Bridge, Tunnel and Blackwall Tunnel would be the way I'd go - apart from the loss of life the knock economic effect would be devastating!

And in a few years the movie would be awesome!

Disclaimer: should this actually happen, I'd like to point out this post is purely coincidental

BBC headline says that a truck killed people by driving into the department store. No mention of the people driving it - it wasn't fucking Herbie!! Didn't drive itself.

It's been going on for 1400 years or more, I don't think it's going to run out of steam anytime soon...
